| Of all the ways God describes Bible verses my personal favorite description is as a key. It helps us understand that God's word does work but only if we put it in the right door and TURN it with all our strength (faith, hope, and love.) GOD'S KEYS WORK IN TWO KINDS OF ROOMS. THEY WORK TO GET INTO ROOMS WE WANT INTO BUT ALSO FOR ROOMS WE WANT TO GET OUT OF...rooms like fear, anger, loneliness, shame, guilt etc. Suggest that any child who needs a special set of keys can write you a note. One of the best ideas I know of is to address a set of post cards to yourself and pass them out to your class so they can contact you privately. MATERIALS Print a copy of our special scripture cards for this activity. If your church copier will not handle heavy paper visit your local copy center and get enough so each child has his own sheet to cut up. You will also need one or two paper puches for making holes in the top of the keys. Finally one shower hook for each child. Use them plain or if you have time a little enamel spray paint can make them look a little fancier. Some Hardware stores carry plastic coated shower hooks. All the kids do is cut up the scriptures, punch a whole in the top and put them on the shower hook. If you have time the backs can be colored. The point of the lesson however is WHAT GOOD ARE KEYS IF YOU DON'T USE THEM. Keep a set on display in your class room OR you might even make a special wall or bulletin board with the heading: GOD'S WORD IS: a key, a light, bread, a traffic sign, etc. etc. A picture of this sort often is worth a thousand words. What kids SEE in your classroom is stored in a different part of their brain than what they hear and can last much much much much much longer. |
